Within the framework of the ECO-WIND Project funded by the European Union, Quy Nhon University organized a specialized training course entitled “Fault Diagnosis Skills in Wind Power Plants” from June 6 to 7, 2026. The program brought together international experts, scientists, lecturers, managers, and engineers from universities, research institutes, and enterprises operating in the field of wind energy in Vietnam. The training course served not only as a forum for academic exchange, experience sharing, and strengthening connections between educational institutions, research institutes, and businesses, but also contributed to updating advanced technologies in the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of wind power systems, toward developing high-quality human resources to support the green energy transition and sustainable development.
Overview of the training course
In the context of the strong global energy transition, renewable energy, especially wind power, has increasingly played an important role in the socio-economic development strategies of many countries. To ensure that wind power systems operate safely, efficiently, and sustainably, enhancing the capacity for monitoring, fault diagnosis, and equipment maintenance has become an urgent requirement for engineers and experts in the sector.
In response to this demand, Quy Nhon University implemented the above-mentioned training course within the framework of the project “Enhancing Capacity in Condition-Based Maintenance for Wind Energy” (ECO-WIND). This is an international cooperation project funded by the European Union, aiming to strengthen training, research, and technology transfer capacity in the field of wind energy for higher education institutions and relevant stakeholders. Through the project, participating units have the opportunity to access modern training methods, advanced technologies, and international cooperation networks in the field of renewable energy.
The training sessions were delivered by experts from Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia, a partner of the ECO-WIND Project, including Dr. Toomas Vaimann, Prof. Dr. Anton Rassõlkin, and Prof. Dr. Ants Kallaste. The program also attracted a large number of scientists, lecturers, experts, and engineers from universities, research institutes, and enterprises operating in the field of wind energy in Vietnam.
Over the two working days, participants were introduced to various in-depth topics related to equipment condition monitoring and fault diagnosis in wind power plants. The experts shared knowledge and practical experience on modern diagnostic methods, monitoring systems in mechatronic complexes, identification and analysis of common faults in wind power equipment, as well as decision-support tools for operation and maintenance processes.

One of the highlights of the training course was the application of Digital Twin technology in equipment maintenance. This technology enables the operating status of a system to be simulated in a digital environment, supporting the early detection of abnormal signs, prediction of potential failures, and optimization of maintenance plans. This is one of the key technological trends being widely applied in modern industry and energy sectors.
In addition to theoretical content, the program also emphasized practical aspects through specialized discussion sessions, case analyses, and experience sharing from international projects. Participants had the opportunity to directly interact with experts, discuss solutions for fault handling, and learn about advanced maintenance models currently being applied in many developed countries. Through these activities, they were able to enhance their problem-solving capacity, update themselves on new technological trends, and expand opportunities for professional cooperation in the field of wind energy.
The training course also introduced the model of Condition-Based Maintenance, a solution that helps improve operational efficiency, reduce maintenance costs, and extend the service life of wind power systems. This is an approach being prioritized by many countries to optimize the exploitation efficiency of renewable energy sources.
The organization of this training course further affirms the role of Quy Nhon University in implementing international cooperation projects, promoting scientific research, innovation, and the development of high-quality human resources. Through cooperation programs with prestigious international partners, the University continuously improves the quality of training, expands opportunities to access new knowledge and technologies, and contributes to meeting the demand for human resources in high-tech and green energy fields.
Beyond its academic significance, the training course also helped strengthen connections among the University, enterprises, and international organizations, laying a foundation for future research cooperation and technology transfer activities.
